What is Career and Technical Education? Career and technical education programs prepare students to enter the workforce with the academic and vocational skills needed to compete successfully in the job market; and they typically include competency-based learning. At Pensacola State College, these programs are awarded the Associate of Science (A.S.), the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), or a Vocational or College Certificate. Nontraditional refers to occupations or fields of work for which individuals from one gender make up less than 25% of the total number of people employed in that field. Programs which qualify students to work in a nontraditional field are considered to be nontraditional programs. These are determined annually by the U.S. Department of Education. Who Is A Nontraditional Student? If you are a male or a female student in an academic program preparing you for a career which has been designated as nontraditional based on gender, then you are a nontraditional student. Examples of nontraditional students include: Males who are studying for a career in nursing and females who are preparing to become computer programmers. |
